Joseph Roundhill

Joseph Roundhill was living in Vancouver when he enlisted on March 1st, 1916. His was a butcher. His next of kin, sister Lilly lived in Whalley, Lancashire England.

 Lived at 1190 Granville Street in Vancouver Trade was “Butcher”

Next of Kin was Mrs Lilly Whipp who lived at 18 Queen St, Whalley, Lancs, UK

He was 5 feet 7 inches tall, blue eyes and 30 years 11 months when he joined up.

He departed Halifax 14 Nov 1916 on SS Olympic – the sister ship to Titanic. Arrived in UK 20 Nov 1916

He was briefly promoted to Corporal at Shoreham Camp then went back to Private before they went to France at end of Dec 1916.

They were in trainining for front line duty until 6 Feb 17

He joined 54th Bn in the field on 9 Feb 16

He got wounded by shrapnel on 8 July 1917

Was in various medical treatment locations until 8 Dec 17

Early in 1918 he was accidently scalded on the right leg where he had got hit with shrapnel

 He was treated for flat feet

He departed for Canada from Liverpool on SS Celtic 7 May 1919, arriving in Halifax 14 May 19 and was discharged from the Army on 21 May 1919 in Vancouver
